
Both marlin and sailfish continue to be caught in most areas along the coast, and the weather holds fine, with gentle winds and calm seas.
Fishing from Watamu, offshore in the Rips, Unreel had two very successful days, tagging a pair of blue marlin from a triple-header strike last Saturday, and following this up next day with another blue marlin and a mako shark, both released and estimated at about 100 kgs. Alleycat returned from Shimoni and over the past week they had released two blue, a black and a striped marlin plus six sailfish, while on Wednesday they found two blue marlin in the Rips, a good week for this boat also.
Neptune boated thirteen wahoo around the Banks on their way out to the Rips, and then fought and released a very big blue marlin, estimated at 280kgs, a very nice fish and a busy day for the anglers! Tarka has also been coming in with a marlin or some sailfish most days, so the Rips is looking productive for the Captain Andy’s Kilifi Classic next weekend, Sat 25th & Sun 26th Feb.
With a top prize of a 9.9hp Yamaha outboard engine, and many other prizes of rods, reels, fishing tackle and a magnificent range of stays in lodges and camps this is a popular tourney and a good number of entries are expected, with many international anglers arriving. The auction will be at the Kilifi Boatyard on the Friday evening, and the prize giving at the same venue on Sunday afternoon.
At Diani, Shuwari has been finding plenty of sailfish, days with eight and seven being notable, while they have been getting several strikes daily from marlin and catching one blue. Culminating with a great day for Kathy and Tracy from Ali Barbour’s when they tagged a striped marlin and seven sailfish! What it Takes, fishing from Mombasa, reports two trips out, releasing a striped marlin on both days while missing other strikes from good-sized marlin, and they continue to catch wahoo and dorado
At Shimoni visiting boat Simba has continued to find marlin,while White Otter has caught sailfish this week, but there have been fewer trips than the busy times in the previous week.
