15 boats entered this years Captain Andy’s Kilifi Classic Fishing Competition. A mixture of amateur and professional boats took part and were greeted with calm weather and warm, clear waters. Saturday saw plenty of action with White Mischief leading the charge with a nice blue marlin of 176kg. There were also marlin caught by Tarka and a collection of other fish. Boats fishing closer in saw plenty of action with tagged sailfish and some nice kingfish around.
On Sunday the boats found the fish harder to find despite the same areas being passed over. Soolyman hooked a feisty black marlin right out of the mango on day 2, fighting for 50 minutes before being tagged and released, something that really woke up the crew on that boat! Simba managed to raise a nice blue marlin of 186kg, this plus a tagged sail fish pushed them firmly into the lead and they held on for the rest of the day to claim first prize in the professional boat category. White Mischief took first place in the amateur category.
