A fabulous weekend was had by all at the Yamaha Eye Go Fishing sponsored by
Captain Andy’s and by Liaison Insurance Group last weekend.
A record 22 boats set out early on Sunday morning to catch or tag and
release sea creatures. Why? Well partly for fun and good sport, but mostly
to fight the battle of needless blindness in our country.
Captain Andy’s and Liaison Insurance pulled together to sponsor the event.
The trophy was won by Lotte when she tagged a majestic sailfish from Bado,
fishing with Bob Brenneisen. The party at La Marina was in full swing as
fisherpeople received some superb prizes from Captain Andy’s and other
generous donors.
A grand raffle with lots of desirable items to be enjoyed rounded off the
event. A staggering Ksh792,250/- was raised to save eye sight by supporting
the work of Kwale District Eye Centre. ‘This money will be used to subsidise
eye treatment, including operations’ says Dr Helen, the Medical Director, ‘
the reason that Kenyans suffer such a high rate of avoidable blindness is
that people cannot reach quality eye care. With this money we can continue
our work to reach and treat these people’.
