Captain Andy’s in conjunction with Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd have been conducting a campaign to support local fishermen throughout Kenya through their Beach Management Units with the intention of

• Improving the supply of Yamaha engines and parts to even the remotest spots.
• Sharing information to extend the life of the Yamaha engines by using genuine Yamaha parts & accessories.
• Researching the quality of fuel and lubes used locally.
• Subsidising pricing of Yamaha engines, genuine spare parts & Yamalube.

We have also been working alongside our sister company Indian Ocean Maritime Training Centre, to develop the Fishermen Safety Course – a professional training course aiming to save lives.

The Fishermen safety course (FSC) is a professional course that fits the needs of the fishermen living around the East African great lakes and along the Swahili coast. Some use dug out canoes, some small sailing vessels, and some have motor boats, but they all face the same risks and problems e.g. not being prepared, insufficient equipment, change of weather and health issues. The Fishermen Safety Course is tailor made and adapted to address these issues. We focus on practical training combined with simple visual presentations.

The immediate objective is to reduce the number of accidents at sea and their effects. The long-term development objective is to improve the livelihoods of the coastal and lake populations, especially small-scale fishing communities.
